Cob, version of the "Windmill" air filter. : A few years back I built a very good air box and filter setup for the Ural, a while back my friend Barry "Windmill" built an air box much like mine but he added a "Pre-Cleaner" to the system, this has worked very well. So I am using the air filter and the rubber end caps from my old air box and am building a new air box using plastic pipe and a factory built "Enginaire Pre-Cleaner". Barry built not only his air box from scratch but he also built the pre-cleaner, he did a great job but I am to lazy to put that much work into this sytem when I can buy most of the parts needed to build it.

Ural project "X", building the "Predator" : Howdy All, This gallery will be used to document the testing, modification and installation of a factory experimental 870cc engine that has a belt drive alternator and a spin on oil filter into my 2005 Gear-Up. The stock engine is 750cc, has a gear driven alternator and a cartridge oil filter that fits in to the front gear cover. How this will work out is any ones guess, I have made major changes to the belt drive that was originally on the engine, time will tell if it works better then the factory setup. Along with testing the "X" engine I will over time be converting the 2005 Gear-Up into my version of a "Cross Bike", unlike most Cross Bike sidecar rigs mine will not be built to carry a "Monkey" ( Passenger ) I will be building the rig to be ridden only by the driver and placing all non essential weight from the bike to the sidecar platform. I have some interesting ideas, time will tell how this all works out. Stay tuned as this project goes together, or blows up. Life is good.

How to install a kick starter on the DRZ400S : This is one of the best modifications that I have done to the DRZ400S. Stock, this bike does not have a kick starter, this is something I was never comfortable with. The Kick Starter Kit, that is sold by Suzuki lists the kit as only fitting the DRZ400E, the kit WILL FIT the DRZ400S, the DRZ400S cylinder head is not machined to accept the manual decompression lever, so it and it's associated parts are not used, the rest of the kit bolts right in. A couple of weeks ago while deep into some very nasty mountain terrain, the battery failed and I had a Hell of a time getting back to where the truck was parked. That was it, never again, I decided to install the kicker. In this gallery you will find detailed step by step photos and commentary describing how to accomplish this task. Life is good. This gallery has had photos added that MAKE CLEAR the installation of the kick starter stopper. Thank you "Mark Kanzler" for supplying these photos

Ural-a-ling in Canada, 9-05 : In September of 05, me and my friend Don, rode our Ural Gear-Up's, to Canada, to participate in a on-off road rally. We covered over 1,000 miles in three days. Approximately 400 miles were ridden on very rough dirt roads or trails, up and down mountains, over creeks and through the woods. Life is good.

Dual Sporting in Death Valley, January 2005 : On January 20th, I loaded five dual sport bikes into my trailer and headed to Death Valley. I left behind cold rain, snow and ice as I trucked south to warmer and dryer climes. I and my riding partners enjoyed 9 days of riding in the sun and sand of the desert. Life is good.

Cyco-Active, GPS Ride, 04 : The folks who run "Cyco-Active" a store for off road motorcycle supplies, puts on a GPS Ride that is attended by many who live in the Northwest. This year I went on this ride and had a great time. We rode over some of the most remote terrain you can get to in Washington State, on old logging roads and mining trails, some overgrown and extremely narrow with cliffs along the side. Being a person who is not comfortable with heights or narrow roads I was not in my comfort zone for much of the trip but I will go again next year because as an old saying goes, "Don't let your fears get in the way of your dreams." My dream is to "live" my life until I die. Life is good.

2nd. Annual British Columbia Dual Sport Festival : I was invited to again ride in beautiful British Columbia with my Canadian Dual Sport friends. We rode for three days in torrential rain, warm sunshine and SNOW. Across muddy washes, up and down incredibly steep rock covered hills and some of the twistiest paved roads imaginable. A great time was had by all and plans were laid to do it again next year. Life is good.

BMW national rally at Spokane Washington and the "ADV-Rider" rally in Ouray Colorado : I attended the BMW nation rally in Spokane Washington, and had a great time riding in the forests of Washington and Idaho. From there I went to Ouray Colorado, where a "HIGH" time was had by all. We rode our Dual Sport bikes to almost 13,000 feet of elevation, got rained on covered with sleet and even a little bit of snow. Life is good.

Modifications to my DRZ400S : I really like my DRZ400S, but I can't leave anything stock for long. Here are some photos of the modifications I have made so far. This is a work in progress as I come across new parts that I feel will make the bike better I will add them. It really was a fun day, we got up to 2,100 feet of elevation before the snow got to deep to continue. Some folks own motorcycles, me and my friends ride them. Life is good.

BC, ADVride and tire patching festival : I was invited up to British Columbia, ( Canada ) to participate in a weekend of riding dirt and paved roads in the mountains. It was great, I had two flat tires one that had to be replaced, Chris had one flat tire, Scooter almost hit a dog and had a slow speed crash, Colin kept dropping his bike, no one was hurt, all the bikes are in good shape, life is good.

Republic Rally, Canada, and the Stanley Stomp : I attended the BMW rally in Republic Washington, then rode with friends up into Canada where we rode many interesting roads and had a chance to view the magnificent scenery around Jasper. While in Canada the air was filled with the smoke from many large forest fires so the photos are somewhat dim. From Canada we rode down to Stanley Idaho, where we participated in another BMW rally, the Stanley Stomp. I had a great time, life is good.

Dave and Don's, Wanderlust Road Trip 6-03 : On May 28th., 03, me and my long time riding partner Don, hit the road, we made it back home on June 20th., 03. We traveled from our homes in Washington State across Idaho, Montana, North Dakota into Nothern Minnesota where we visited family and friends. We then made our way back to Washington via South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. We covered over 4,500 miles traveling on paved back roads and dirt or gravel Forest Service Roads. We also traveled through the Devils Tower area, rode over Bear Tooth Pass and rode over the Hwy. to the Sun in Glacier National Park. We had a great Time, life is good.

Touring the Rocky Mountains by Motorcycle : In late June of 02, my friends Jim on his Harley Road Glide, and Tim on his BMW-RT, accompanyied me on my BMW-GS, on a tour of the Rocky Mountains. We left from our homes in Washington State, and rode through the States of Oregon; Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, then into Alberta Canada and Britsh Columbia Canada. We then crossed back into the USA and Washington State at the little town of Sumas. We rode for ten days covering 4,312 miles, taking our time to see the wonderful country and take a lot of pictures. The pictures taken while we were in "Monument Valley" are cloudy looking because of the smoke from the forest fires that were burning out of control in Colorado, the smoke was so thick at times it burnt your eyes. Life is good.

Death Valley, : I attended the AirHead Rally this year in Death Valley, I had a great time riding around in the desert and the surrounding mountains. When I left my home in Granite Falls, Washington, the temperature was 28 degrees, the roads were covered with ice, I reluctantly loaded the bike in the back of my truck and headed south. The weather in the Death Valley area was great no rain, lots of sunshine and it wasn't hot. A "cool" time was had by all. Life is good.

The right tools make all the differance. : I am tired of paying someone else to change my motorcycle tires. With as many bikes as I have paying someone to put new tires on becomes very costly real soon. I picked up this tire changer and now do all my own tire swaps. This tool makes a hard job a lot easier, tools really do make the differance. Life is good.

GS ride to Hart's Pass, in Washington State : Today me and my friend Al, rode our BMW GS's, over the North Cascades Hwy. to Winthrop Washington, to enjoy an afternoon lunch at "Three Fingered Jack's". On the way we tried to ride Forest Service Road #5400, over Hart's Pass. At 6,238 feet, this is the highest Pass in Washington, we didn't make it. The snow stopped us at 5,274 feet. Sometime in July we will try again, by then the snow should be melted so that we can ride over the Pass. Life is good.

Hogging the road : On May 25th. me and my friend Jim, set out on a 1,867 mile tour of the Great North West. We covered just about every major mountain range and Pass over 5,000 in the States of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. We covered paved roads and some gravel in spots where the roads were being worked on, some of this road construction was nasty wet mud. We saw many critters and had a great time. life is good.

From Arlington Washington to Purdhoe Bay Alaska, on Motorcycles : july 13th. 2001, I and two of my friends Don and Scott, rode our BMW R1150GS, motorcycles to the most northern part of the north American continent that is reachable by road. We coverd over 6,ooo miles in 13 days, much of this mileage was on very bad dirt and gravel roads. We saw many wild animals and some of the last unspoiled wilderness left on the planet.
